I am Cathy Husid-Shamir, a national media relations specialist with 30 years of experience. I have designed and implemented hundreds of publicity strategies that enhance clients’ corporate images while contributing to the bottom line. I specialize in obtaining lifestyle and consumer story placements in broadcast, print, trade and online media. Placements include The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, Anderson Cooper 360, Good Morning America, The O’Reilly Factor, The View, NPR, Associated Press, Huffington Post, Yahoo News, iVillage, Travel + Leisure, Cooking Light, Town + Country, Time, SPA, Elle Décor, Time Out NY and Hospitality Design.
I began my career in 1984 by working in corporate public relations for Neiman Marcus. As a PR generalist, I held a variety of positions that eventually led to my directing all aspects pertaining to special events, community relations, fashion and marketing/advertising for the company’s flagship stores in Dallas.
After leaving the world’s leading specialty retailer, I opened my own cause-marketing practice, where I consulted with 30 nonprofit organizations, three advertising agencies and various corporate clients who were all motivated by a desire to create opportunities and programs that “make a difference” in the world.
Next, I was recruited by a top full-service advertising agency to manage public relations client activities for its field office in Dallas. During my 10 years at FKM, I won eight professional awards for my writing, event-planning skills and national media relations results.
Throughout much of my career, I have worked with clients who represent health & wellness, new economy, food, design, retail, education, human rights and travel. I have developed ongoing relationships with key news, lifestyle, trade and consumer media.
In 1999, I became an independent national media relations specialist.
I attribute my professional success to three things:
- I believe that I am in the relationship business and I bend over backward to foster good ongoing rapport with media, co-workers and clients.
- I have personally experienced and managed most aspects of the world of marketing/advertising/public relations and have chosen to focus on national media relations. This allows me to offer helpful strategies and get results.
- I am doing what I love.
